fuel starvation on hills!

Post by Scot.78 »

I have 1982 2L Aircooled, I repaced the mechanical fuel pump for a new one 2 weeks ago, ran fine for about 100mile but now it sometimes looses power on hills, it will do it once then its fine, and its not on every hill. Can some one give me any ideas! Oh and about the same time the fuel gauge stopped working! There is fuel in her i always keep her topped up.

have you replaced the tank because if its the original with steel filler pipe it will be well rusted

Hi,

As above, check for dirty filters and that fuel flows freely out of the tank.

Also, when you replaced the pump did you:

a) grease the lever and pivot arrangmenet in the base of the pump (if you didn't it may already have worn the pivot)

b) check the pushrod is 100 mm long (too short and it won't pump at full capacity).

Cheers,

Alex
