A nerdy front shock question (WARNING INC'S PART NUMBERS)

Post by jed the spread »

Just replaced my shocks all round on the Westy for some fancy gas ones and when I took the old ones off the part number was

251 413 031 M

From what I can find out via The Google it was a HD option on a 14" with 251 413 031 C being the standard 14" and 251 413 031 N being the 16" . They are a maroon colour if that makes any difference and I was wondering if anyone knew how common the HD option was and if it was part of a package?
One of the reasons I am asking is that my front springs are thicker than standard and I have always wondered about those too, the van also had an Ottenger charge cooler fitted when it must have run the original 1.6 td when new so that is slightly more unusual.

Or is The Google wrong again?

M469 code Heavy Duty Shocks fitted in conjunction with Heavy Duty suspension but no mention of HD springs on ETKA

If they are OK I'd put them back on as the Gas shocks just wont be as good or durable

The front springs will be put right back on as they are really good and I hope that using Blistein gas shocks on the front will help on the wash board roads we are going to be traveling on later this year in North Africa. I am hopefully going to fit some custom rear springs to do away with the pesky pig tail on standard springs (once I have weighed the van fully loaded) and I have fitted Blistein gas shocks on the rear and hope it will help . The rear end of the van will be heavy with full fuel tank, Westy water tank and full jerry cans when needed at times but the weight will get lower as the off piste days go on.

One of the reasons I upgraded the shocks is because the van failed its MOT because one of the fronts was leaking oil. As things have been going really well at work for the last 18 months I thought I would take a bit out of the savings to get the van ready for the trip as I had to replace one anyway.

I have had a look at the Schick website so thanks very much for that Xriss.

No mention of the extras though Alex on the PR codes.

Thanks for the help so far guys :ok
