How hot is your heater on hot?!?!

Post by 300CE »

Took the old girl for a quick spin as I'm off to the new forest to see my folks at the weekend so thought I'd blast a few cobwebs. Had a fiddle with the heater controls and mine on hot (in the words of alan partridge) is hotter than the sun!! When I put it to cold it just kind of becomes luke warm.

Is this normal & what is the heat like on yours - always good to hear what others experience?!

The temp needle always sits a smidgen over the centre and drops back to just under halfway when I have the heater on max temp so all good there.

the heater in mine is very warm and it heats up quick,it does not run cold until it is practically all the way to the left, the temp gauge is just to the left of the warning light at all times,it is great in the winter as it is well toasty in there

My old Aircooled caused cans of pop to explode if they were in the vicinity of the rear heat outlets!! Its was far hotter than any of my later watercooled vans.

Mine never blew particularly warm until I flushed the heater matrix through properly when I removed dash. Now I fry!

Could explain it Covkid, I thoroughly flushed out the whole system with a hosepipe when I had the engine out!

I'm still trying to work out what does what on mine so decided that the best time to experiment was tuck in a traffic jam in the really good weather a couple of weeks back. Mine got so warm it actually forced my two year old son (who is in the early stages of talking) into learning a new word with him sat there repeating "Hot. Hot. Hot" until I managed to work out which lever I'd pulled. That said when it's on cold it's icy cold which was good last month.

At a risk of going off thread - how warm is the engine bay meant to get? The lid of mine stays hot for ages was still warm 5/6 hours after we'd stopped driving (probably done 120 or so miles) the other week + noticed the bottom of the back door was quite warm again the other night after probably no more than 25 miles or so.
