Newbie/Request

Post by G Dub52 »

Hello, I am new to the forum but have been on the scene for a while although I have just purchased my first van!

Picking it up on Saturday from Devon, it's a Type25 holdworth variety high top.

My request that the title states is does anybody have any pcitures or know how the main double bed works and goes together? I've seen pictures of it set up as 2 single but cannot find out about the double set up.

If you could let me know this it would be great for me to pick it up and as we are camping in it that night I would like to have a clue what I am doing.

thank you :D

Yeah get the old owner to show you how everything works before you leave, well worth a walk round. Zig units, fridge, beds all can be slightly different in how they're setup so worth asking.

I have asked for pictures but I'm very excited and impatient :)

I've asked for quite a few more pictures of all sorts but was just wondering if anybody on here had one or any advice in general.

Thanks guys, I'm so excited and can't wait to get stuck in! Doing back to basics and eyeing up a couple more to get the most in before we wrap it up after underwear. Already spending money on bits and having even picked it up yet

I have a Holdsworth Vision which has the same bed arrangement as the Variety although the rear kitchen arrangement differs a little. Make sure you obtain the original centre bed board from the seller or you will only have two single beds and not be able to turn it into a double. The double is full width so is quite roomy but I have found the bed is very firm. A useful addition to your accessories would be a couple of those thin self inflating air mattresses that roll up small for storage as this will give you a softer bed (ordinary air-beds are quite useless however).
Personally, as a solo camper, I only use the single bed facility. I usually sleep on the passenger side as I find that the steering wheel gets in the way on the drivers' side bed. This would not affect anyone less than 5' 3'' tall though or if the double bed was used instead of two singles. Sleeping is better with feet towards the front of the van as it is less hassle than one's head tangling with the steering wheel. Also, when parking up prior to sleeping, try to face the van slightly downhill (but level side - to - side) as I have found the front seats are a little higher when flattened for the bed than the rear seats. With trial and error you will find your own preferences however.
You will enjoy the layout of your van as it is superior in many ways to the layout of the common or garden rock and roll type of conversion whatever the make. Richard Holdsworth really displayed his genius when he designed the rear-kitchened conversion for the T25.
Enjoy !!
:ok

PS, If you make it to Back2Basics, we will probably meet up. See Mrs Mercdoctor for club camping details.

Wow, Thank you for your knowledge and information, I am not to sure if it comes with the bed board to be honest.

I will take your pointers on board and will definately be going to back 2 basics so it would be good to have a chatter.

Cheers mate, all advice is good advice as I'm so new to having my own van :ok

You are most welcome G Dub52 .
Sadly no bed board does mean no double bed. :(
The board is the width of the gap between the front seats. It has legs at the front end to support it. The board is long enough to allow the other end to rest either side on the ledges of the rear seats when they are correctly positioned in such a way as to fill the void between the seats on each side. The board is also hinged in the middle to allow for easier storage when travelling. If you are not supplied with the bed board when you purchase the van, one can be made to measure if you or a friend are reasonably competent at woodwork.
Hopefully (my health permitting) I will see you at B2B.
Best of luck.
