Post by Tobyt25 »

I need a good mechanic to look at my engine, tried Volkstop in Penkridge, they fixed my van but two weeks later its misfiring and losing power. Suggestions please!

Hi Mate you should have contacted me. Try Keith at Barnies on Cable Street just off the Bilston Road. 01902 450440. He looks after my cars for me and a sound guy. Proper old school mechanic not a fitter. Andy :ok

Ive decided to go for a re conditioned engine. After thinking about how much ive spent on the van already and the fact i have no intentions of selling the van. I thought my money would be better spent on a reconditioned engine rather than keep patching up the old one. especially when i was planning on changing the engine anyway in 12months or so.

Where is the cheapest place to buy one and will that garage in Bilston fit it?

There is volks magic in oldbury. As the name says they only do VW classic. They are a breakers yard but they are also a garage. They recon engines and fit them. I know they have an air cooled as they bought mine last week. The big ends in mine went so it is being re built ready for resale. Lea is the man you need to speak to.

I gave them a call at oldbury and they quoted just under £2000 to recondition my own engine. EliteVW have quoted me £1700 to collect my van and fit a new re con engine with 12,000 mile guarantee. Going to get it booked in next week, not sure which garage will do the best job. Elite seem to have a good reputation on here but The garage you recommended is more convenient.

I have only used them for parts buying and selling. I have never used them for work but they do have a good reputation. There is also Mario in Telford. He did my conversion. Bloody good mechanic and a VW expert but his time management is a bit hit and miss. You could try him. He is at the end of the rabbit run. 01952581818

If things go wrong then I'd like to think I only have to get to Oldbury
