When i try to start my van it will not start, if i boost it will start right away
i bought it a new battery which is only 6m old and all the earth's are fine , dose any one know what it could be ?
i will be really great full for any help or ideas
When you say 'I boost it' - do you mean that you are jump starting it using another cars battery?
If so then it can pretty much only be your battery at fault (however new it is).
There may be a power drain on the battery from the van that is slowly flattening the battery.
Do you have a battery charger to charge the battery?
A little more info needed, as the clubs crystal ball is on holiday,
What engine?
Does it turn over? Reasonably quickly? or slowly?
Does it try to start, or does it just turn over?
Where do you connect the jump leads when you jump start it?
Do you have a voltmeter and can you test the battery voltage When the engine is running? and when it has been sat for 24 hours?
Have you checked the earth straps to make sure they are clean and solid to the body and engine? even a bit of dirt, rust, corrosion can make a big difference.

right i got some more info,
Its a 1.9 dg engine.
it dose try to turn over, but its a bit slow to turn over if the booster( booster pack thing) is not hitch up to the battery (ie not turn on) , and if the battery is hitch up to the booster and it will turn over start right away. ( ie when turn on)
It does sound like your battery,
If you start the van and let it idle for five mins or so will it start without the booster?
Can you take the battery out of the van and charge it over night? then try starting the van without the booster.
You really need to take some voltage readings from the battery.
It may be that the alternator isnt charging your battery fully or that your radio or other fault is discharging the battery.

hi i have taken the amp and cd player out.going to leave over night then see if it will start on the key.like the other half said if i put the booster pack on the battery it starts fine.all earths look to be in good order and the battery is less tan 12 months old.got to get it sorted by next week as the vans going for a mot thanks for all your help.
I'd wack the battery on charge and give it a good 14 - 16 hours then try and start it.
The issue may well be lack of use (the battery has slowly run down whilst it's been parked.)
went down today turned the key and away it went.so i think its the amp draining the power im going to leave it for a few more days with the amp off then see if it still starts. it seems it is my amp thats draining my battery took the live wire from the amp off the battery and left the van for a few days.went down to see if the van would start and it did first turn of the key. and the 2nd ect so im happy my van starts but no so happy i have to get a new amp.
