Did a jury rig on one of these a couple of weeks ago. Fitted a jubilee clip loosely around the boss, fitted the spigot, filled the clip with araldite, then tightened the clip. Once set off the repair was rock solid.

Hah, never thought about the jubilee clip trick. I happened to have some belzona lying around, the good metal compound stuff, not the 'not so good' plastic compound. Wacked a bit of that all over after putting a flat washer over the spigot and hopefully it will have dried solid by early evening..... tooooooo hot to do any work until after 6 so a couple of hours snooze first.
And if it don't work then the very fact I have thighs like tugboats will help

I can now happily report that the belzona repair did the trick, what with family visiting and other jobs I only got to the van yesterday. Went down the mountain (900m drp in 12 k so a good test of the brakes) no problems, all working as they should.
The only problem that still remains is the motor getting quite hot on the run up causing the oil to thin, BOD after most left hand uphill corners and the revs dropping. I would hazard a guess that a proper front mounted oil cooler will help possibly along with a new oil pump...... but that's for another day I think. no problem on the flat or even on straight inclines ony the steeper of the climbs!

That's standard behaviour for a JX I'm afraid and heat is the killer for these motors.
A good oil cooler (Brickwerks) will help as does avoiding hills.

The oil cooler is on the wish list as is a new oil pump!
The only way to avoid hills is to leave it parked down by the beach then cycle up!!! Don't think
the good lady would go for that.......
