New radio thing

Post by Sleedale »

Bought a Pioneer DEH-4500BT CD, radio, thing from Halfrauds today, and  I managed to fit it! Took the old one out, even managed to install the microphone wire neatly (and topped up the brake and clutch fluid while I was in there) took the old connector (thing with blocks on each end) off, replaced with new one that came with radio, plugged in arial lead, microphone lead, just managed to move all the myriad of cables out of the way so I could fit the new cage and radio, and hey, it worked  I was as surprised as you all are, pleased too.....

however, it doesn't seem to want to turn off  the only way to turn off the noise and bright lights is to flip the radio front off, a little extreme but it appears to work, but does this actually stop it drawing power from the battery? Or is my battery going flat as I type.

I don't have any electrical testing equipment and wouldn't know how to anyway, although I w careful to disconnect the battery during fitting (and then reconnected it of course)

I'm not overworried at the unorthodox switch off method and will get it sorted eventually, but I'd rather Victor had power to start in the morning.

Thanks peeps, I know someone on here will know :ok

Normally there is a button called 'source' if you hold that down it will turn off and not flatten battery. It needs to be wired into the ignition if you want it to turn off when you switch the engine off.

Thank you, I will try that.
The old one was originally wired to a switch in the back but I had that altered cos I kept forgetting to switch it on before I set off, so I just switched it off on the radio - it didn't turn off with the ignition, so I assumed this one would do the same :?

:ok tried the source button and it switched it off! Brilliant, tho still don't know why the on/off button doesn't work. Also tried the iPhone through it - brill and it charges the phone, bonus, can use the sat nav on the phone now and only partly get lost :D

Im not great at mechanics, average at DIY but car audio i can do. If you want any other help or advise just ask. My old Golf had a system that would rival most nightclubs. The Wife wont let me do much to the camper stereo, might have to hide some amplifiers under the rock n roll bed lol

Cheers Toby for the offer, it seems to be working, has a power save function for vehicles without the acc setting on the ignition, and I actually managed to tune the blummin thing this morning........AND the van started fine so no power drain hopefully. The source button turns it on and off so I assume the tiny on/off button is maybe for those posh vehicles with an electric automatic arial, and it powers and plays my iPhone so I'm well chuffed. It's not fitted perfectly, I couldn't quite manage to push all the cables behind it far enough out of the way so it's a couple of mm proud, but looks fine, works great :ok
