Gear selector bush kit: (where do the bushes go?)

Post by lowlifedubz »

Hi there; I bought this bush kit off ebay:

to improve the sloppy selection but I'm a bit perplexed as to the location of one of the bushes. If you have a look at the gear selector diagram (exploded view) in the Haynes manual here:

As you can see both the 'front bush' and the 'rear bush' look the same in the diagram but the actual bushes that I have are different and only one of them looks like the bushes in the image. Is this because the bushes in the image are just a generic image to depict a bush of any description? Or have I in fact got it wrong and there is somewhere else that I am missing that the smaller bush fits? Assuming the latter; that means I have to decide if the bigger bush goes on the front or the rear; which would improve selection the most?

Lastly, as you can imagine I am aware of the location of the final 'bush' - far simpler to ascertain! haha!

Thanks in advance for any help; it will be greatly appreciated. :ok

Just spotted something that I missed earlier, in the first pic of the diagram above; under the gear stick there is another label for a bush which looks similar to the smaller bush. Is this the location for the smaller bush? Again if so, does that mean that the second, larger bush goes at the front or the rear? cheers

bigger hollow one is the front bush goes in the chassis
the smaller one is a late rear and needs to be sandwiched between two rubber boots in the metal plate that goes onto the gearbox, if your van is early and without the rubber boots then you need two of the bigger bushes instead or buy two of the rubber boots from brickwerks but be aware they will cost as much as the rest of the kit you got off ebay
the metal part of the ball can be very tight fit on selector shaft, kity doesn't have the important protective boot though, they are also available from brickwerks

Thanks for that; mine is a late... maybe they asked that when I bought the bushes; I can't remember as it was about 3 months ago lol!
Anyway that makes sense to me what you said so I shall hopefully get them fitted today.... cheers dude! :ok
