Rear Hub Nut Socket?

Post by Wychall »

I'm looking to add a 46mm socket to my toolbox ready for the day that I need to undo the rear hub nut. But what do I buy?

My present socket range goes up to 1/2" drive, so would this be sufficient for the 500Nm grunt needed? Or do I need to save up a bit longer and add a 3/4" bar to my armoury? I have a good long scaffold bar but I'm not sure how strong the 1/2" knuckle breaker bar would be.

Or do I get a slogger instead?

I have bent my 3/4" bar a little getting mine undone so wouldn't rate your chances with a 1/2" one. I got a 3/4 to 1/2" reducer which helps when you have other recalcitrant nut/bolts to undo.

So what would be the thoughts on this set? Good value or chocolate teapot?

You need a 1" drive breaker bar and a 46mm socket. I can't see most of the other sizes or racket handle in that set being very useful.

Get a very long extension bar or grinder with 1mm cutting disk for when you can't get the f#%@king thing undone! :D

A slogging flogger it will be then. That VW Heritage one is considerably cheaper than the £30 Draper that I had my eye on. :ok
