16" rear stub axle

Post by stevealex »

Hi All

I've just had a sweaty one with a rear wheel coming off  No harm done althought the wheel came off on a really steep hill so it was a bit of a nightmare getting it jacked up enough to refit everything, I ended up reversing down the hill just on the brake hub to get flat enough to get the wheel back on.

When I refitted the wheel I have discovered the thread is worn on the rear stub axle, as I have fitted a new nut but it will not take any torque . Has anyone tried recutting the thread and fitting a slightly smaller corresponding nut?

I've also posted a wanted for a stub axle in the wanted section just incase anyone has a spare they are willing to sell ?(am I right in thinking they are different to 14")

Don't know about recutting thread, should be possible, Ian Holman probably best to advise, smaller nut may require a thrust washer to make the diameter
108mm drive shaft half shaft is different yes, I let Lee have the last one I found - McGill had a SA bus they scrapped - the good stuff probably went off that already, should have had 108mm stuff on it - but I spoke to him today and basically if you want anything from Ian go to Shotts then he'll do anything for you, he's feeling better now :ok
AFAIK they are still avauilable but strong money new

Cheers for that Aiden.

I do think re cutting the thread might be my quickest back on the road fix, this is the only problem with these 16" there are some parts that are difficult.

Don't forget I've still got that door for you. I will get down your neck of the woods with it eventually, just been a bit mad with work this year. it's not a problem storing it where it is for me, it's next to my 4th door for the doka which I've been wanting to fit before Christmas.
