Re: update on intermittent travel
Yep it is and after looking at wiki again, and about an hour testing it, it does look like the air flow metre up the shoot. Thing now is they are no longer available and the only way forward that i can find is to risk a second hand one and mabe the same thing all over or find another way around it. It seems in the usa they have the cure with a thing they call a hot-wire or A F M (air mass sensor) has any one had one fitted.
Or do any of you know a nother way to fix this.
Are any of you at or going to Chilly farm vw fest over this weekend or maybe know a second hand or new parts dealer who will be there.
I know it seems like i spend most of my time on here asking about things but maybe after alll the probs ive had to solve with all your help id think i should soon be able to ofer some advice instead of just asking all the time.there again maybe its time to take the hint after spending £3000 fixing it up and wasting a hole year and give up ive got a feeling this might just be one that cant be fixed. Thanks for all your help guys and galls. All the very best to you all Tony.

Thank's for for the info on that. I was told nobody did them anymore and was about ready to throw in the towel. But now it looks like a bit of hope for the old girl. Ive sent an email asking when a new one will be available so now its fingers crossed. Thanks again Tony.

Re: update on intermittent travel
I dont know anything about the 2.1 injection ... but im sure I have read something about the lambda ( oxygen ) sensor giving this type of issue ??
also have a look at this post http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/poor- ... 76543.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It may help, lots more helpful info over there about the 2.1, as I say I dont have much knowledge with these fuel injection systems.
If you do sort it then please take the time to come and tell everyone what it was... really does help others in the future.
Good luck
Martin

Re: update on intermittent travel
Oh and dont give up ! It will be worth it in the end.
I know what its like to feel that you are on your own and nobody seems to be able to help, I have had quite a few posts that nobody answers, I guess its just because nobody feels that they have anything useful to add... sometimes just a reassuring message of support is all it takes to give you the motivation to continue .
My advice is to read everything that you can, it may be possible to piece together snippets of information that will help to solve your problem,If not already a member then I would strongly suggest joining up on the Brickyard forum, different people , different skill sets... different ideas. But please come back and post what you find.
Some people think its a them and us situation, personally I am a member on both forums and find both fantastic in different ways.

Re: update on intermittent travel
Thanks for all your help. Everyone. Ive just got an email from Brickwerks looks like they can no longer get afm's for 2.1i. However they do have one for the 1.9i. They think it might fit the 2.1i but ate not totaly sure, they also say for £300 its a very big might. Worth the risk im not realy all that sure to be honest. Oliver at t25 direct says he can get one for a 2.1i but will have to order it, my thought on that is if unavailable everywhere else can he realy be 100% sure its right. He may also have a second hand one at £150 subject to testing but again is it worth the risk. The only other way may be to change the engine. This would be a big shame as its perfert and such a sweet runner. Dilema yes quick fix not a chance.

Re: update on intermittent travel
Is your 2.1 an MV? if so it's more likely to be the oxygen sensor playing up....and as the diagnosis only involves pulling the sensor harness (plug) apart, it doesn't cost anything to eliminate it from the equation. Before shelling out big money.

Re: update on intermittent travel
I asked brickwerks for more info and if poss a photo of the 1.9i. Part.only thing is to get this info they will have to buy one and then either they get stuck with it or i do and one of us get to be out of pocket. So that ones looks like its out.its looking more like a second hand one. Or engine change then. Dont like the odds much to be honest.
