Idea for a cheap and easy sunshade/awning

Post by stowiethechamp »

Hi All
Thought I'd share our idea for a simple and cheap sun/rain shade /awning. We didn't want to shell out £100's on a proper drive away, didn't want something that took three quarters of an hour to put up, but quite fancied some outside storage/space to sit to get away from a breeze in the evening.
This is a large tent porch from Go Outdoors... cunningly modified with two figure 8 strips that sit snugly on the awning rail on the van. Takes ten minutes to put up, cost about £30 delivered, and provides a wee bit of shelter. Granted, it won't provide safe haven in a force 10 gale, but I like it. Let me know what you think....

Comes out about 130 cm approx from the van. Big enough to sit in a chair and take refuge from the wind!!!

Cheaper than my obelink awning! No pictures yet, but I'll be doing a test run soon, before next weeks trip to Monknash.

That looks the same porch extension we use in our tent , great idea, it's well made and poles are heavy duty so shouldn't bend and snap in a strong wind. I like it . Daz :ok
