At what stage......

Post by Sleedale »

does the DVLA need to know that the van is changing colour?
OH has been inspired to roller paint Victor, not all of him, just the lower half but will be doing it in stages. So today the front will change colour, the gradually the rest of the body, front doors, middle, rear panels then back, so when do I need to tell them it's no longer all white? Oh and should I change it to camper instead of van? It's always been a campervan, but doesn't appear as such on the V5, yet MoT and everything else records it as a campervan
Confused and befuddled

you need to inform dvla that it is a 'motorcaravan' and with luck they will amend the v5 if not then pickies and form filling and maybe inspection sometimes,
ive never bothered with 2 tones, only notified if the main base colour has changed,
but the change of class is vital as it raises all sorts of issues

Cheers Mike, think I will take a few pics once the front is done, some of the inside to prove its a motor caravan, and then send it all off, with written info. Strange it's never been altered to motor caravan before as it was one from new, and any and all other documents list it as such.

There is a topic on here about changing the van to motorcaravan. Though they have been getting a bit tighter recently and there are certain things you need like a table, bed, sink etc

I informed them of the colour change once I had finished painting the first coat

Try searching

E D I T: Found it

Thank you Cruz, that's a good helpful link. When the van has had it's first coat I'll do a load of photos and adapt the letter - it's been a 'motor caravan' since new, but obviously never changed on the V5
It would be nice to get it all in order

They won't prosecute me for it having been wrong for 28 years, will they
