T25 Front Bench Seat

Post by jonnydub »

Hi Guys,

New on the forum as I recently brought my first T25 to convert.

I'm looking into fitting a full length front seat into my van (see pic) and wondered if it was possible?

Obviously I will need to move the handbrake and thinking maybe converting it to a pull handle like the T1's?

Thoughts??

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums. Interesting choice of modification, and one I can see causing you some issues.

You have already mentioned the handbrake issue, but you also need to address access to your starter battery which is located under a front seat. You will also remove a lot of real estate of storage, and flexibility, ie, walk through, unable to adjust recline, relocate seatbelt anchor points etc.

Isn't the starter battery for diesel engines normally located in the engine compartment?

That's true, but unsure which engine the OP has.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm thinking of making the seats lift up so I can still access the storage and the batteries (it's Air-cooled - CU engine). With the seatbeat mounts I believe I raise them enough to poke through the new seat and have a lap belt in the middle.

Not fussed about losing the walkway as my interior design will block it anyway.

I will post some sketches tonight

ok, done a bit more research into this as I think moving the handbrake shouldn't be too much of a problem if I was to get the kit from a T2

Looks like that would cost between £50 - £75.

That would then give me though room for a bench seat.

Then I came across this:

Hefty price tag but I'm liking it as it would increase the space inside to van.

Regarding the MOT I have yet had chance to looking into this but it has been discussed on another vw site

Did you ever do this ?

Just returned from our trip and was thinking about this as its a bot more socialable with my daughter rather than her sitting on her own, just unsure about loosing walk through all the time
