1983 A/C Westy Joker info required thanks

Post by hosey »

Hi, I'm new to the forum and i'm basically looking for some info to help me get the most out of my recently bought a 1983 1.9 petrol air cooled Westy Joker. I have already started sorting the biggest issues which I found answers to on forums like this so thanks for that. Its a german import and totally original with brown paint and no rust... yet! :) its currently in getting Dell'Orto carbs fitted as it had some issues with fuelling- i will post when i get it back as to what the difference is. I have already changed the gearbox as it was jumping out of first and managed to get a second hand one on ebay for £100 + £150 to fit. I have fitted a new leisure battery which fits nicely under the drivers seat height 175cm and registers full on the cooker panel. Next I would like to get my camping equipment up and running but there is no power to the fridge either with the hook up or the 12v setting. It has an eberspacher heater factory fitted which i was told was disconnected but when i fitted the new leisure battery it switched on and started to spin up, i panicked and switched off as i dont know anything about them. Does anyone know what model comes with this van and where I can get it serviced before using it as I don't know when it was last used or if its safe? Also I would like to get my LPG tank serviced and check my cooker and try and get the fridge working. Also I need to get 2x three point seatbelts fitted to the back. What are the alternatives to the Westy fridge if its goosed, or is it better to take it out and use a more modern portable fridge and convert the space to a storage cupboard? I also need to change the tent canvas so I would like to know where to get the best replacement tent. Sorry for all the questions at once but these are the things I need to look at and would appreciate any info on any of the above questions so I can hopefully get the family away for at least a weekend or two before the summer is out!
P.s. what's the best roof rack /storage box to fit as I think i will need one and does the new fiamma bike rack fit the old brackets??
I live in Glasgow, so any advice on nearby garages etc where some of the above can be carried out would be great!
Cant wait to get her back with the new carbs, has anyone else done the Dellorto conversion?
Thanks

I would check and replace the fuel lines to the ebber and then start it up and see what happens whilst keeping an eye...check air vents are not restricted as well. I had dells. Make sure your fuel pumo does not run too high a pressure. Buy the Dellorto superformamnce book. You will love them and struggle to keep your foot off the gas!
