Clutch troubles AAZ 1.9 td conversion

Hello All,

I have had some West country fun with my van driving back home to Hants at 5mph up any hill due to my clutch slipping "a little".
It started off with a judder a couple of days before we left for a week in Devon. Driving around un-laden and before we left was fine, it was just the journey home with all the weight and then the hills.

I obviously need a new clutch, the smell from the van on the longest climbs confirmed this. I have a feeling there has been some oil contamination and this could be the cause.
My question, short notice, but I am changing it tomorrow and wondered what seal to buy and what clutch.
I have had a look through wiki and cant see an answer.
A clutch kit for AAZ engine, (golf) from GSF is £78+vat and a seal is £6.25. Do I need a T3 clutch, such as sold by JK or will the car one do it. I don't need sports performance.
The other thing is, I need to get it today so only have those two supplier options.
Any ideas?

Have found this one on the GSF website searching for T3 1.6td rather than talking to a person, ( who wanted the reg number),

Thanks Ian, I have had a read and the lack of clutch change advise on the AAZ would indicate that the 1.6 clutch should be fine.

I don't have an AAZ but a 1Z instead and also had no idea on which clutch was fitted. The engine may have the T25 flywheel/clutch or the converter may have decided to use the golf flywheel/pressure plate with a driven plate to suit the input splines on the T25 box. Other options could be that the T25 gearbox has had the input shaft changed to suit the golf driven plate. With mine I found out they had used the T25 CS flywheel/clutch which still seems to work OK despite the extra torque.
So basically you could have any combination of parts and won't know until you take it apart and measure the clutch diameter and compare the number of splines against the T25 and golf versions of the driven plate.

I've just changed the clutch on my aaz panel van and used the standard jx clutch.

Brickwerks Bkack Diamond clutch is uprated for AAZ's etc

I am going to strip it and have a look to see what clutch is fitted. I am quite sure it will be the JX, but you never know. I will then get the clutch from GSF. I would have gone for the Brickwerks uprated clutch, had I more time as I am sure it would be better for the West counties and their hills. But as I am borrowing a friends workshop space at short notice it wasn't to be. Better than grovelling under the van for 2 days though. Have other jobs to do when its on there too.

I am doing it today, just waiting for some ramp space, should be ready at just gone 9.am.

Standard JX clutch in my tweaked AAZ van...had some heavy trailers behind it and no issues so far...3 years or more...new standard Sachs clutch on a refaced flywheel...
