Tailgate rubber grommet tube for wiper wires & washer pipe

Post by hardwick53 »

I have two rubber grommet tubes either side of the tailgate (LHD), the drivers side carries the rear window heater wires and the passenger side (perished) carries the wiper motor wires and the washer tube.

The passenger side tube has perished, so i found a replacement from VW Heri (VW pt no. 321 971 840), now I have come to fit this i notice that the hole in the body and tailgate is round but the new rubber grommet tube is a rounded rectangle :?

Looking at the the driver's side rubber grommet tube carrying rear heater window wires, the body and tailgate cut-outs are actually rounded rectangles.... so i have the wrong rubber grommet tube. The perished rubber grommet tube i took off looked the same as the other but has circular grommet type ends.

Really surprised that VW has used two different types of rubber grommet tubes. I have looked on the usual parts sites and on here but can only find the one i bought.

Any help on finding the part or a fix would be a great help. I'll also post a wanted.

Thx Pat

Update 1: found the part no. I need, its 251 971 840, initial search not showing availability in states

I just used insulating tape on mine to mend the split. Does the job.

I bought a set of rear door ones off a MK3 Golf on fleabay and they fitted with a bit of fiddling, not ideal but water tight and and keeps wires in order.
