Oldiebut goodie wrote:Well, it sounds more and more like an airlock/blockage or poorly waterpump in the engine if it is getting that hot quickly.(does the rad get to the same temp?) There doesn't seem to be any symptoms of head gasket problems still as you say that it runs well and you are not getting air produced. Did you use a new thermostat/test the old one for fully opening. I had overheating from a faulty thermostat that didn't open fully. Similarly, running without a thermostat is a good idea as it doesn't direct the water correctly. Have you bled the system properly?

yes i fitted a new thermostate (tested it first and it was ok)
yes the sytem was bled properly
no the rad was not the same temp, but it was hot
no air produced

now removed the thermostat,
my mechanic called round, after spending hours on the net and said the timing must be out
me NOT being a mechanic, never thought of that coz the engine seemed to be running ok
reset the timing and put the engine back together,,,,,,,lots of bits, isn't there
done a test run yesterday and got further than we have previously :D
temp gauge sat between ½ & ¾ depending on what speed i did, the faster i went the hotter it got

thank you very much for your help, i was knocking my head againt a brick wall, we are off to volkspower this weekend to test it, at redcar rugby club
cheers
