Get a wood floor varnish, they are really hard wearing.

Something like this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ronseal-DHFVS25 ... _sbs_diy_4

I can vouch for that diamond hard - I put 20 coats on a cork floor, it was really hard wearing and didn't scratch easily.

2 coats of Osmo Polyx oil, leave for two weeks then 1 more coat.

It's used on the oak floors in the Natural History Museum.

I would say a minimum of 5 coats - I used 20 as it was a hallway with a lot of through traffic.

I have used the Osmo oils but they are nothing like as hard wearing as Hardglaze. Nice to look at but need retouching all the time.

You will only need 1/2 litre for that small area I should have thought. B&Q seem to do the smallest - 750ml @ £23.98.
To get a mirror finish put a thinned coat on first then fine sand it. Then keep adding coats with a rub down with 'flour' grade sandpaper between coats to take nibs off. I applied a coat a day to allow decent drying time but it is touch dry in 30 mins. They quote 3 coats minimum and recoat in 2 hours but I prefer 5 minimum + a longer recoat time.

herb is that a red space heater? is that cork floor. do you have anything under it ie ply wood? also does it go across the ehoke floor ie wall to wall? it looks very nice.

I am going to put commercial grade kitchen lino on top of the varnished ply. I just want to make sure it's sealed well. I chose satin varnish.

Yes it is a red Propex.
Cork tiles over the original 3/8th ply floor which covers the whole floor area I just tiled the walking area.
