Hello,
I've recently bought a 1990 van that on test drive sounded fairly good apart from a blowing exhaust. It's a 2.1i with LPG conversion on a 4 speed box. I have now noticed that upon driving it a bit further, once the gearbox oil has warmed up, there is a bit of reluctance to come out of all gears. Also when pulling off in 1st gear there is a horrific sound (not grinding but more like a heavy whirring noise). This also happens in reverse gear. Once moving she pulls well in all gears and the noise cannot be heard. I can prolong the sound with clutch control and also reduce the noise by slightly blipping the throttle and giving it a few more revs before pulling away. This makes me wonder if the noise is coming from the gearbox or clutch? I should point out that this noise doesn't start straight away, she drives fine for the first 30 to 45 minutes. I'm going to change the gearbox oil following the advice on the wiki and wondered is there anything specific I should look for i.e drive shafts, CV's, Magnetic plug etc...?
Following on from an earlier post I read that approx 4 litres of carplan 75w/90 should be an acceptable replacement of oil?
If this doesn't solve the problem what would be my next line of investigation?
I'd appreciate any advice or previous experience...
Many thanks
Adrian

Right then, ordered the oil (comma GL4 75w/90) Thanks Ian. Will post a pic of the magnetic plug when I get chance to drain the box. If it's furry like the pic in the wiki, is it time to consider a rebuild/second hand?
