Another sliding door cry for help...

Post by StuM »

Hi All,

I finally got around to putting the window in my painted sliding door. Once I got the door back on, I remember now that I'd never had any joy getting this door to close nicely and sit right. I should start by saying that I believe that it may have had some filling at the bottom at some point.

Basically, if you shut it with a normal push, it doesn't latch in fully, so sticks out at the back. If you give it a firm push, it does go in, but when the handle is turned it 'pops' open - ie. like it's being held in a position by the latch that it doesn't want to be in. In one of the photos below, you can see that there is a daylight gap at the leading edge.

I've read a few 'how to adjust' threads, but can't seem to get the suggestions to work.

I've taken a load of photos in the 'firm closed' position in case any of you get a chance to cast your well trained eyes over..

the door fits reasonably well , perhaps a touch fwd but no great sorrow, it will all be in the adjustment or lack of it, i did an easy guide to this a bit back but cant for the life of me recall where i posted it,
i thinks i need a space someplace to put all this
sorry mm

Thanks Mickey.

BTW - I decided to have a go at fitting glass myself - all went well until I pushed the window out onto the floor! I bought a lexan replacement and managed that. Seal works perfectly - thanks.

Is it likely to be in/out adjustment that's out rather than up and down? Took door off and put back about 5 times On my own today, easy when you know how.

Thanks,
Stu
