Westy gas issues

Hi All,

It is driving me mad, every time i take my van into my garage the mechanic gets the fridge to run just fine, everytime i camp using the gas the fridge keeps going out sometimes lasts for 10 mins sometimes for an hour but always without fail eventually goes out?

The appliances are all westy as are the fitments, the stove works fine!!

The gas is a large butane bottle running a 30mbar regulator, plenty of gas in it!

Does any one have any suggestions to resolve this issue. fridge works fine on 12v and mains

Wrong gas pressure.
Those in the know will most probably tell you that your appliances are set up to run on the Westy 50mb lpg system not 30mb. (unless you have had your appliances re-jetted)

I have a 50mbar propane regulator, which clearly does not fit on the butane bottle. is there a sensible cheap fix? would a propane bottle with this extra regulator work in my van!!!

not sure how one goes about getting stuff rejetted

any thoughts and suggestions gratefully received

Why are you using butane then if you have the correct regulator? Just take your propane regulator to the local dealer and check if it fits. AFAIK it will but I haven't a Westy so haven't looked into it. 50mb butane regulators do not exist I think.

The propane regulator was something I picked up pretty recently in the hope that it may work! Will swap the butane for propane bottle with new reg and see how it goes !! Thanks for advice

I'VW run westy fridges with standard butane regulators with no issues once I had cleaned the jets.

But you will not get an optimum flame though therefore less cooling effect.

And presumably the slightly smaller flame brought about by the lower pressure may not properly heat the thermocouple (this device keeps the gas flowing to the burner) so with insufficient heat this device turns off the gas and the flame goes out...Sounds exactly like your fault.
