my own van dont start

Post by Plasticman »

Hmmpf, 1.6D
battery 12.8 ,
have fitted a new switch to the ign block so turn a screwdriver and as you go to start the relay in eng bay clicks
so meter on battery and when ign attempting to start it drops to 11.2 no attempt to turn over
i have an extra earth from bat neg to block.
now prior to this when attempting to start it gave simmilar symtoms then started turning over slowly gradually speeding up and would start. so looks like pulling it in and doing some work ??
brakes need adjusting plus service and found a rear spring broke, might do the clutch pipe as well and it needs a new downpipe..................

Hmm well it would never have started again
motor off
Image
cable goosed as well
Image
so heat the old nut and remove, rethread and make good
found a spare cable and soldered a nice new terminal end on
Image
so all happy , good earths and starts first time again
rear wheel cyl leakin so at least an easy rep as was the spring

See it was salt corrosion as I said!
I would have put some shrink tube over that joint with a touch of sealant inside to stop it starting (intended) again. :D
Job done. :ok
Did you check for the same thing happening on the female spade terminal?
