CV joint intermitant clucking/knocking

Post by Marmalade67 »

Hey all.
Got a very annoying cluck which becomes a full knocking noise. Everything points to the cv joints but as i live on a very steep Sheffield hill cant sort it myself, so taken it to the garage twice. First time they tightened a bearing and it stopped for about 50 miles. Second time they cleaned up the back brakes and it stopped for a similar time. It is very intermitant though and yesterday was really bad and could feel the knock through my feet. It's worst going up a hill or cruising up to a junction.
Today took it to the garage and not a peep so they dont know what to fix (general mechanmic not vw specialist). I want it sorted but dont even know which side it is. What can they do to determine which one is struggling or is it best to get both replaced.
There is also a chance it may be something else if anyone has any ideas?
This is my everyday vehicle so need it to be running and hoping to go on holiday in it next week.

Take it to Autohauls Dolby in Sheffield near GSF. Matt knows these old VW's and will get it sorted for you! :ok

They deal with Eurocarparts so whichever they would supply.

OK
For future reference, it may be better if YOU supply quality parts for your van.
Find out what your garage wants and pop onto Brickwerks and have it sent directly to the garage.
Then you'll know what has been fitted to the van
Brickwerks do not sell crap, only the best.

I had the same prob, was going to replace the CVs, but im not planning on any big mileage so i replaced the CV boots and swapped the LH drive shaft with the LH one and greased it up. has been fine so far.

Got a new cluck with the odd knocking.
