Nice battery charger offer?

Post by Ian and Lins »

I know it's a motorcycle shop but this may be a good offer?

"for batteries from 1.2-1.25Ah – i.e. all batteries usually found in motorcycles, cars, caravans and boats"
"Zum Laden der meisten 12-Volt-Batterien mit 1,2-30 Ah"

Either something has been lost in translation or it is certainly not suitable for a 110Ah leisure battery. Not many cars have only 30Ah batteries if the original German is correct, even less have 1.25Ah ones!

Found the Engrish manual:

**** This product is designed for use with Gel, Lead acid and MF batteries
between 1.2 and 30 Ah ****

No good really. Maintenance charge use only.
I use a 20Amp charger for 220Ah of batteries that one appears to max at 1A or so:

Voltage AC 220-240V~ AC, 50-60 Hz.
Charging Current 0.900 Amps rms
Charging Voltage Nominal: 14.4V
Operating Temperature: +1ºC to 25ºC
Cooling: Vented outer case
Charger type: Class 2 battery charger
Maximum dimensions: 128mm x 88mm x 39mm
Weight: 0.4 kg

Good info OBG , but looks like it might be OK for layed up maintenance charging. What do you reckon?

That's all I would use it for but you can get them a lot cheaper than that - Lidl and Aldi have them on offer every now and then @ around £15.

Fair comment. I've got the Lidl charger that I use for my Aprilia RSV 1000RR and believe me it really needs the battery to be in tip top nick. But I thought the HG one looked like a pretty good offer.

Thanks again OBG for your incisive input.

Lidl ones normally around 3.4 amps...still pretty puny for a largish leisure battery.
As you say, fine as a conditioning charger but it would take a week to charge a leisure battery so not very practical.

Guys,

I've been looking at one of these. It looks pretty good value and it runs a 12v fridge at same time when on hookup.
