Pump Seal Gone

Okay thought it better to start as new topic as other pump leak rectified.

I have another fuel leak, this time between the top half of the pump and body? It was noted when testing the throttle, that diesel started to seep out on acceleration? not a lot but obviously of some concern. I have tried to source here how easy it would be to change the gasket, but no luck. So would appreciate any help on that one. I have less than a month before the long trek north to the great fishing grounds of Lapland, so need the old girl ready

Well it seems this one has everyone here stumped, so looks like I will have to go see the expensive man in the garage and pay through the nose for a gasket change????

Okay i went ahead and decided to do the job myself, how difficult is it to change a seal eh! Heck it was a nightmare, had to disconnect so many different parts just to remove the top of the pump!

Anyway, did the job, and after a couple of turns it started, then it died, then it started again and it died again, then finally settled down........ for a less than a minute! It then started to run away, revs were increasing so had to shut it down. Restarted and it idled for a few seconds then started to increase engine revs again? so shut her down. Did this two more times with same result??? Confused.

I re-opened the top to make sure all was doing what it should be, and to best of my knowledge all was it should be, except I noticed that the pump did not have same amount of diesel, same as when i first opened it?? I checked the flow by doing the suck on a pipe thing, that was okay apart from the taste yuck! So I closed all, cracked opened one of the injectors and tried to start..... nothing, zippo not even a blip? so now am confused why no diesel in pump?

Any help or guidance really appreciated, going fishing this month some pics attached, may shed some light out there for someone. regards Tom

Update:
I connected a 12v ancillary electric fuel pump between tank and filter (which by the way will be changed sooner than later, full of crud), this helped prime the pump, and with one injector open, fired her up on the 2nd turn of the key. It was I can tell you a relief to here her purring like a ragged old self again

I was intending to leave the pump in situ, but decided that maybe to much pressure would mean some waste fuel? So off it came, shame as it works very well on the tractor! So anyway, I now know how to do that job, another to add to the done list.
