19DG 2WD 1985 wheel bearings query and info

Post by fairwynds »

My van was developing a slight wheel bearing 'rumble'. Passed its MOT and they did give the wheel bearings extra attention at my request. They seemed to think I might get away with just a clean and regrease.
I bought new ones today.

INFO: old ones, correctly fitted and adjusted. FEBI brand. Been on van for 7 years and covered 30,000 miles of 'normal' driving.

QUERY: Heritage have supplied MEYLE ones, in a kit, inners, outers, seal and nut. I will be using Comma 'high performance' bearing grease. Had a long and candid discussion with the guys over the Heritage sales counter about bearing quality issues. They are adamant that these will be ok. Unfortunately Brickwerks are out of stock at the moment (but more importantly I needed van back on road today). I read throughthe whole of the 'quality parts thread' but that did not refer to these bearings, and thread seems to have been 'hijacked'! (no offence meant or implied).

So, hopefully I will be able to report back in another 30,000 miles that these have performed well :ok

Febi and Meyle don't manufacture wheel bearings, they box components. Given the involvement of Heritage perhaps you should tell them your mileage and let them know if/when anything isn't what you would expect.
