Throttle sticking 2.1i

Post by peterg »

Hi.. Firstly Ive sent this message to a few folks who commented on a thread.. throttle return springs? Mine stuck open today and in an automatic it scared the .... outta me..!! There was play in the linkage under pedal so went to the engine and Ive a spring to the bottom of linkage (as in Haynes) but it feels as tho this isnt strong enough.. had the van for years with no problems except for a rough idle recentish.. Was thinking it may need new cable as still stiff with spring disconnected but if a heavier spring or retro fitt?? to top of linkage it would return and close throttle.. So if you guys fitted one.. what type? where from? and/or did it solve problem? Does anyone know where I can buy an original spring? Mines a 2.1i Auto 89

Thanks Guys..

You didn't send it to me. Mine turned out to be the rod from the gearbox to the throttle linkage.the ball joint had rusted together at the gearbox end. After a clean and a good greasing problem solved.
