This year we need to get both kids in the roof at the rear as the youngest 2 is getting too big to share in the 3/4 rock n roll bed. Now she is an absolute monkey! and climbs up and over everything so I know a bed guard of some sort is definitely needed!!
The rear has a pull out section with a lip on. Been looking at child bed guards but thinking they are not wide enough and also requires some butchery of some sort
Please if anyone has this setup could they post some pictures and ideas.
Also there is no mattress so was thinking we need some of that firm blue foam stuff??? I suggested a duvet folded over but apparently not good enough
Our hightop bed uses the ladder as a guard. Ladder same width as roof and two sliding locks slot into drilled holes. Does that make sense. If not I can post a pic up tomorrow.
We got a luggage net online and installed that with the intention of our little boy sleeping up top, but as it turned out, he sleeps in the rock and roll bed with us and the luggage goes up top, but it worked to stop him rolling out of bed when trailed...hopefully the photo will help give you an idea... Cheers, Jim

Ah what a great idea! If you could post a picture of this that'll be great. Where did you buy the ladder or did you make it yourself?

Hi Rob, I tried sending the photo through the forum, but Allan's it told me it is too larger file and I am not sure how to reduce the size...could e-mail the photo though if you can let me have your e-mail address?

I had the same quandary, my children no longer use a bed guard one so this was in the loft, I attached with two straps/buckled, drilled holes on wood base and attached, its very secure but we only put it on when they are sound asleep and easy to take off about 10 seconds.
First photo shows bolt lock screwed into ladder. There's a hole for the bolt drilled into the roof lining and covered with the plate supplied with the bolt. The bottom section has a stopper to prevent the bottom of ladder sliding out. It's a tube of metal with a screw going through it secured to the side shelf. The other side is exactly the same.
The ladder seems to be the type you get with a kids bunk bed and them chopped either end to the right size.
Second pic shows it in place.
The mattress base is foam on a thick piece of ply and upholstered. Oh and theres a handle on the front to make it easier to pull forward. When not in use it just sits on top of the other matress. Oh and the set up I described at the top is replicated in the middle so the ladder can be stored the same way when the beds not fully extended.
