Identifying gearbox?

Post by polish van ben »

Hi all
My gearbox had started clunking out of 4th gear - discovered that was hardly any oil in it, so refilled and now running fine - just did 3 hour round trip in it and no clunking, though is whining a little.

Still generally resigned to fact that will need replacing soon. I can't afford a rebuild, so ideally would like to buy good scrapped replacement. Problem is I'm not sure exactly what gearbox it would be, so wonder if someone could help?

Originally it was a 1.6TD, but this was a replaced with the 1.9TD AAZ, with the gear box being changed from the 5 speed to a 4 speed at the same time. Therefore is there just one gearbox that can be used for this conversion, or could it be from a selection? Or are there any codes I can look for on the box?

Unfortunately I can't ask the folk that did the conversion as I had it done while in Poland about 7 years ago.
