just interested - as to why the feel is so different now.

Mine gets 100% travel, but feels a little too high - I need to check the PN on it.

The old pedal used to kill my ankle, was just that bit too high. Also it was very sensitive, new pedal is just more normal. Might just be because its at a better angle/height?

Agree about the sensitivity, Driven mine quite a bit recently. It's great for quick take offs, but it's really hard if you just want to bimble along. Fuel consumption suffers a bit too 8)
Trouble is, your new pedal is expensive compared to others on evil bay

Ta, might try a RHD Sharan/Galaxy one as theres plenty on ebay. Mine has a pot in the engine bay and it drives horrible.

Quite a lot of people use the cable and pot set up, maybe something is up with it?
I do prefer the E pedal myself, if the RHD galaxy one isn't quite right you could always cut and weld it at a different angle

No problems with original pedal and potentiometer in engine bay although still have a 'heath-robinson' contraption to attach the cable to!

How it comes apart:-

Just a question of 'relaxing' the internal spring once apart (moved mine 90 deg if memory seerves me right)-why spend extra dosh when factory ergonomics applicable to your van seem best?-where you put the potentiometer in the bay is up to you

I've got 3 throttle pots, all different.
First one of unknown origin, inside mechanism came out ok but had one spring inside the other. Inner spring is the one with all the tension on it, impossible to get to it without destruction. Now destroyed.
Second one from a 99 passat auto, had an extra spring (so thats 3!) inside an extra top cap under the arm. This also had a brass collar under the arm around the spindle. Inside mechanism moved about 5mm then refused to budge. Gentle persuasion led to more forceful persuasion and is now also destroyed.
Last one from a 97 manual Passat, on the vehicle and stiff as buggery. Reluctant to strip it for fear of impending destruction.

Whats the part number of the one you successfully 'relaxed'?

Well just for the record mine's using an unmodified pot in the engine bay and I'm happy with it. Slightly tempted to try an electric pedal to see if I can make it work well. Didn't like the one I tried in a mates van.
Syncrosport (taking a break as of summer 2024)
