That is looking very lovely. What do they polish the high top with? Ours is a bit, well, icky. I have scrubbed it with Cif but the front bit seems to have had something stuck on it at some stage and removed, sort of tacky/rough surface left. Would be nice to get it all clean and shiny.

Van has been stood since this morning and cannot believe how grubby it is.

Hopefully will get a full weekend cleaning and refitting parts.

Both of us have spent most of weekend polishing bits and pieces then fitting. Also had to make a welding repair to one of the quarter light frame brackets.

Fitted quarter light windows and window seals in side doors.
Seals to boot lid & sliding door.
Door handles and locks.
Sorted out bumpers which now need flating before painting.
Lights, indicators, grilles, wiper spindles. Need to find some wiper arms?

Does not sound a lot when you write it down but it took all weekend?

Image
Fitted new roof light from O`Learys. Similar to original item fitted on Komet by Autohomes. Had to open the hole size slightly then just dropped in.

Internal view.

Plan is to get the van through MOT ASAP and then complete installation of van interior.

Jeff, I do not like to criticise anyone elses van but I have to agree: The white vents/grills look lousy... sorry! They need to be black. About a fiver for a can of satin black. I bought some from the market at our last Northallerton meet  . Looking good mate :ok Got a proper name for it yet?

Update on progress.

Spent time cleaning out dust from inside of van ready for fitting of seats and interior.

Image
Looking cleaner.

Image
Removed and stripped down swivel bases from old Austin Princess seats. Set up in van for fitting of standard pair of seats when we find some. My passenger seat from Autosleeper being used to mock up.

Found some extra welding required in drivers front foot well and both seat belt mounting points.

Image
Seat belt mounting bolt. This would pass an MOT as it is secure but the captive nut is turning and in the event of accident this would pull through the floor. So both sides will be repaired.

Image
Two small repairs required in drivers footwell. Will do this on my drive one night when it is quiet.

Mocking up fitting of swivel bases

Image
The original seat runners have been removed from floor. The swivel bases have the runners to accept standard seat.

Image
Set my seat from Autosleeper on base to check rotation.

Image
When swivel base dropped straight onto floor it would not rotate through 180 degrees. Had to fit 10mm wood packing which then allowed full rotation.
If the original floor runners had still been in would have worked first time.

Image
Packer in position. This would be the position/height of the seat runners.

So going to need a set of original runners to weld in or weld in 10mm packers. Will then weld swivel base to these.

Handbrake cable. Bodge repair

Had to replace one of the handbrake cables when we replaced brake shoes.
This meant needed to adjust handbrake cable. Any way this was siezed and on trying to free of the rod it snapped at the end of the thread.

Image
Rod sheared here. Yoke would fit at this point.
Repair carried out as follows.
End of rod right hand side tapped with M5 tap (shiny bit) Old thread M6 cleaned (coppaslip)

Image
Fabricated the following. SS pipe with 6mm bore, welded M5 nut to one end and M6 nut to other. This will now act as a type of turnbuckle.

Image
Fitted this to ends of threaded rod and yoke and tighten up.

Image
Hey presto one adjusted handbrake.

No worked planned for this weekend as off to Mighty Dub Fest at Druridge Bay for weekend.

Looking brilliant chaps, I'm amazed how much space there is when they are empty - however not much use without seats/bed/cooker/cupboards/sink etc.
You are both doing a fab job, well done :ok

So envious of the way they are getting their hands dirty Sue. Would love to be there getting stuck in. I know it's work but I'm so wanting to get stuck in. Wish I lived nearer. Nice couple of blokes as well. I think I'm gonna call them Laurel and Hardy. Now... which one is the big bloke? Joking chaps, you're doing a fab job! :ok
