Gearbox noise?

Post by Bigjcc55 »

My recent purchase developed a noise from the gear box on its 350 journey to its new home up here in sunny Scotland, the noise is related to the engine speed rather than wheel speed, a horrible whine that the old stereo can't drown out, the drain plug was a bit hairy but nothing too bad considering the age of the van. Any thoughts as always appreciated. I m taking the box out tomorrow as I think it would be better to catch the problem just now before it turns into a bigger nightmare
It's a 5 speed diesel!

Check its not a worn out clutch release bearing as thats relatively cheap to fix.

Got the box out, the release bearing was ok and the spigot bearing looked ok as well. I knew it wasn't going to be an easy fix!
