Tyres sticking out of front arch (just)

Post by Fully Loaded Cali' »

Just bought a set of 17"alloys (black and silver 7 spoke, just kampers) fitted 225 50 17 98 x load tyres. Looks ace but the front tyres just stick out of the front arch. If I look down from above, I would say approx 10mm of tyre can be seen but the wheel is flush to the arch. There is good clearance etc. question is are these legal? Anyone else got this issue?

In a word...no...if the tread is within the arch you should be ok...maybe...but your van will be very dirty for sure.

No tread, just the corner of the tyre. The wheels have an et of 23 so I thought these tyres should be ok.... May take it up to my local garage and get an opinion from them.

interesting thread over on Brickwerks forum....

Apparently you can buy ' post office bus ' wheel arches, that will do the trick.

personally I wouldnt worry unless they really stick out, I think coppers wouldhave more worries about bald, wrong load ratings and please God no " Euro style " stretched tyres.... those are just dangerous ,

Had my camber angles re-set and the tyres are now flush (just) so I'm happy! The new tyres make a huge difference on ride and handling, super smooth...

HI Q Tyres do it for £60 nationally. Independants who have the kit could be cheaper, there's a guy in Shrewsbury who charges £25.
