Water pump, what else to do

Having a right nightmare, spent the last 4 out of 5 weeks out of the country and I'm due to move 200 miles into a new house on Saterday, so to say I've been busy is an understatement...

My waterpump seems to have siezed yesterday after the aux belt snapped, got a new one ordered this morning from brickwerks but I don't think I'm going to get it changed in time for the move.

Do I need to drop my coolant to make the change? Haynes says yes, but was wondering if I can get around it? How horrible and long is the job to a novice?!

My van is my daily and there are a number of other things I planned to do once I had a free weekend and I'm thinking now would be a good time to do everything, i just don't have time or space at my new place (it's a city centre flat).

My van has a 2wd T-stat housing and I was wanting to change it back to a syncro set up. I was also hoping to flush heating radiator out and fully drain the coolant.

So.. Is it possible to change the waterpump quickly without too much hassle or should I wait and drain the system fully and get all the jobs done (looks like I would be paying brickwerks or someone else to do this)

Help, I'm on the brink of having a meltdown! House sale looks to be falling through, job is causing me to be everywhere and the house move is getting complicated.

Sorry, thought I had it in my signiature...

It's a 2.1DJ petrol with later water pump (it's a 1991).

It has 2 belts, one for power steering and the other for water pump and alternator.

Not an easy job on a wbx I removed the engine pulley on my mv to make access easier,

with the pump off I changed the oil pressure switch that lurks behind.

No need to flush now but do later, top up with pink or purple a/freeze 50/50 mix with distilled water.

Oh and there's 2 small elbow hoses to the oil cooler that may need replacing while your in there !!

Well that was an eventfull weekend, moving house from Chester to Newcastle and changed a water pump

I found it pretty easy on the DJ and took about 2hours and I really was taking my time. Engine pulley could stay on the DJ, it was just a case of using a knuckle socket (i think it's called that) and a delicate touch. Collected all the dropped coolant and re-used it and topped up with distilled when making sure all air was out of the system.

So, if your water pump has gone and your reading this. Change it yourself, it really doesn't take much, just carefull planning and the correct tools, which are cheap enough to buy, if you don't have them. Wait for the new one to arrive so you can check where everything is connected
