Gasket replacement

Post by bootie3367 »

Morning!
Currently the oil filter housing is leaking so I want to change the gasket. I realise I will have to remove the filter to do this but, how much oil can I expect to lose.
The filter has only had 900 miles through it so don't need to replace it, I just need to take it off, undo the housing, fit new gasket than refit filter.
So, is that wise or should filters be replaced every time they are removed?

Any advice welcome

TIA

Right, I don't have any manuals for this engine so I'm in the dark with regard to this filter housing, does the cooling jacket unscrew from the mount or is one piece?... If it is one piece, how the dickens does one get to the two cap screw bolts underneath it????

Any one got an exploded drawing of said part?

Stuck at the moment!

After you take the filter off there is a large central nut that unscrews to remove the oil cooler, then you can access the bolts holding it to the crankcase. This gasket you can make yourself easily enough but ideally you need to replace the o-ring seals - http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php/t ... w-use.html.

Basically the same as the CS - in the Bentley:

Magic OBG, that's exactly what I was after, thanks a million. I already have the kit from brickwerks so I'm good to go now.

Cheers

Well that went well!

I ended up using some blue Hylomar to help the gasket seal. Ran up to temperature and no leaks! Chuffed with myself!

Here are some pics (it may be useful for the Wiki??? Mods)

Before the job started.

All parts removed (thank you OBG!)

Cleaned up underneath.

Filter back on and job done :ok

I was hoping to fit the new oil pressure and temp gauges at this time but ran into a small problem, but that will be in another post.

Just to top off the small amount of coolant lost and of course the oil.
Will have a drive down and up the mountain a little later on just to check how she is under load.

Just a light smear would have been enough
I hope non of the squeezed out hylomar plugs your main bearing pathways..

It was situated around the perimeter, very close to the edge. I guess that's why it looks like a lot.....
Thanks for the observation though.

To add to the post, I was fitting a new grey sensor today and I've stripped the thread
I wasn't even trying hard so it must have been ready to go at any time!

Now I can't go down to the beach tomorrow night and stay for the St Juan festival! bugger! We can still go down but will have to come back as we will have no place to kip.

Still at least brickwerks have them in stock :ok it just won't get here in time :( !

Aah the joys of owning a T25.

now an hour later and I have been talking a load of codswallop haven't I!!!

Brickwerks don't have that in stock, they have the cooling jacket not the oil filter mount.

New post about to go into the wanted section.
