Installing a new gas hose (cylinder hose to metal gas pipe)
The hose to my Gas cylinder is completely cracked and leaking and I want to replace it. Had a look on wiki but can't see anything. I've bought the replacement hose. But don't understand how I un-do the gas bracket thats there. Today I dropped by a Caravan sales place and ask them if they knew. But they where closing. Had a quick look and said it was an old fitting and they suggested cutting the old hose above all the cracks and putting a metal join in and joining the new one. But I'd rather do it properly. I bought the van in 2002, never changed the hose, and it say's 1991 on it! I'll add a picture of the bracket. Any suggestions most appreciated

What is that p-clip covering?
Can you remove that and take another picture - might help if we could see under that.

It looks like factory crimping - if so it's a case of wire cutters and then put the new hose on the tail underneath with a decent hose clip. I can't believe that they have suggested putting another hose onto the the old rotten hose (that's the way that I read the post anyway).

Re: Installing a new gas hose (cylinder hose to metal gas pipe)
Ok so I decided to have a go at undoing it. Removed the clip covering it. And backed off the two nuts. And Oldiebut goodie your right. It has been factory crimped. Took it to the hardware shop and Showed the guy but he didn't have a suitable fitting as was a bit reluctant to suggest much due to it being a gas fitting. He recommended a Leisure Boat shop on Anglesey (where I live). So a trip up to there. And he had the threaded part I was after. A drive to the beach, attach new fitting and then A cup of tea was in order. Ok the thread doesn't match by a rizla. And No tea. So now ordered off ebay a nozzle to nozzle similar brass fitting and will have to jubilee it to whats left of the old tube as a temporary measure, which isn't cracked. It was the end by the regulator that was bad. I wont leave it open unless in use ( i don't anyway).
Thanks for your replies guys.

Careful cutting would have taken the factory crimp off - saving the cost of a new fitting. The rest of the hose needs replacing as soon as possible, it will be in poor condition if one part has gone.

Re: Installing a new gas hose (cylinder hose to metal gas pipe)
Cheers obg, Maybe I should have a go at 'careful cutting'. I don't have a vice and my junior hacksaws a bit rubbish. But point taken about old hose.
I know Llanfair PG. I'm living the other side of Beaumaris. My Dad's from Menai Bridge. But I was born and bought up down south. Bit more relaxed here. And I get a parking space!

I removed mine by 'carefully' ramming a screwdriver up it and twisting a lot - eventually you will expand it enough to get the end off.then once its off, grab it with some pliers and twist/bent it till it snaps off. I'm pretty sure that's what flat bladed screwdrivers are for. Didn't take very long.
Put the new hose end in hot water before putting it on - supposedly makes it easier

You can normally cut a "tin" ferrule off with a decent pair of wire snips.
