Hi all

So I'm fitting a 3 point belt to my T25. All pretty straightforward.

So I saw this rust in the r&r bed area (bottom left of pic I the corner). Thought I'd give it a sand back and paint

Same happened here.....

After this I decided to take out the windscreen and fit a new rubber seal....

However..... Found this ( after a bit of sanding).....

Not great. Was hoping for some light bubbling!!!!

Also had a go at the footwells and front seat area (subjected to water due to the above!)

Came up ok, however some small tiny corrosion hole and a large circular hole that is meant to be there.

Should there be some sort of plug or grommet there?

Also noticed a some corrosion on the roof area, after a quick sanding, this happened.....

I'd like some advice please. What should I do?

Is a good welder the way forward? Any more advise greatly appreciated.

Will post pics of the seatbelt fitting and the interior carpet lining as I do it.

I would add I'm a total newb, but up for attempting anything.

I do however think welding is probably beyond me.

Need this good to go ASAP as we are doing France in August.

Mmmm not a great time to be doing this then!

I'd concentrate on the windscreen as you are not going anywhere without it, the roof hole you can stick some filler in as a temporary seal and all the other holes can wait, the only one I think may be an MOT fail is the first one you found as it's next to the training arm mount but I'm not 100% sure and again it can wait until MOT time.

I think to weld the windsreen surround dash may need to come out otherwise you may melt whats behind, don't even think about doing the welding yourself if you haven't welded before take it to a professional. it's not going to be a small job so as I say just tackle that and leave the rest.

That could well be the worst windscreen surround I've ever seen. If it were me, It'd be a very close call between trying to patch whats there and just sourcing a complete front end. There was a really tidy one on ebay recently for £80 but its gone now.

I agree with Itchyfeet, get the windscreen welded, use some fiberglass putty on the holes after a good Kurust treatment. Some sanding, primer and color (or rustoleum) and the temporary repair is done. Note the holes for later, they will be back in 3-5 years.

All are repairable but the roof is the worst, screen frame is the best despite looking severe...only thing is it needs doing pronto and driving the van anywhere to get it done will mean wearing a helmet!

Nice to hear some encouraging words.

I removed most of the lining today, just the Devon roof to do.

No more surprises there.

However......

Removed the rear cabinet, to get at the R/H seatbelt fixing, and noticed some loose rusty material. Then saw some daylight. After a bit of a feel and inspection, I found a hole that seems to be a reslt of rotted metal.

It's rear of the r/h 3 point belt fixings inside the paneling. The square area with the cross imprint to the right side of the inside of the engine bay area looks dodgy too.

What do you think?

1st pick not an issue unless there is a great hole on the other side
roof as said, gob it for now (p40)
front floor save for another day.
screen ,did you stanley the old rubber off? if so fit back to the body with some tape and put a couple of wedges at the bottom, sit your screen in and tape it with gaffa... then take to fixer :lol:
its not happy , the sreen surround is shot but.....there is more work that cant be seen in the picks, as in the backing for the surround.....................its missing :rofl , see mallywagon. you have a few choices there to sort it

I am aware you're the guru when it comes to welding MM so want to understand.

I did Stanley off the windscreen rubber. I also have a new one.

If I'm being thick tell me.

I've also got a strong gin and tonic in hand, so I can handle it!!

backing as in the metal that the front hald of the lip welds to .yours is missing on the drivers siude and will be on other areas as well.
where did you get the new rubb er from and when
the info ref stanley was to confirm the cut of the seal so you can use it as a base to temp mount the screen for tx to repair man, or where a set of biggles...

Ok. I see.

Apparently..... The front is not correct for the type. It a later type. It's a 1980 2.0l Aircooled

So I guess that may explain the lack of certin things. No idea when that happened.

I think I'll get a welder. It's got to be better thn me fudging it. I'm happy to fudge the rest.

Will take some pics of the "holey" area at the back if I can.

Lining carpet on way, so hoping to get it aced and all back in over next 7 days.

I'm used to working on iPhones so its lovely to be dealing with LARGE screws.

So.....

Kurust on the rust this evening. Plus started to rip the old lining off the inerior panels I've removed, in preparation for the arrival of the new lining tomorrow from MEGAVANMATS (tip from this site).

Also ordered the interior sticky reflective heat / soundproofing stuff from TOERAGSTRUCKMATS on eBay. £79 is expensive, but I'm going to take a punt on it, at least for the roof. See how far 8m goes.

One thing I have noticed is that there is not insulation at all in the van. I reckon it was removed when it was resprayed and never reinserted.

Any recommendations?

Is the stuff you buy for your loft any good?

Just the second 3 point to buy from Brickworks and I think the spending can stop!!! For now.

Except for the welder....

Oh and anyone know a good mobile mechanic for these in the West Sussex area?

My current one has dropped off the face of there earth. :cry:
