panel van board fixings

hi. the top of the skin at the back of the van has a 6cm approx gap between the fibreboard and the 7mm round hole in the skin of the van. I am trying to find something plastic and non invasive to hold the two together with this size of cavity. any ideas?

i decided to make some battens, probably out of something easier to work with than wood.
