bushes-advice required!!!

Post by fatboy »

My van ('83 LHD westy) has failed the MOT on upper wishbone bushes and upper anti-roll bar bushes.I am sure i have seen the procedure explained on here or the brickyard but can't find it!!!
Have been on to the JK site to order them also, priced at £14.95. Is this individual?therefore i require 4?do i need sleeves aswell and a pin?Is this also where the camber is adjusted? how do i mark it up to make sure it all goes back together the same?
I am not a complete novice, just want to make sure that the ever helpfull collective can steer me in the right direction!!!
Cheers in advance.

Tell us where you are and there might be help local to you.

Without a location all we can say is 'remove the welds, push or beat the old ones out and press new bushes in. Make sure the camber is re-set correctly'.

Coney Farm?

Thought it might attract some attention here then...

(don't think the procedures are all in the Wiki yet..)

You're best off taking the ARB right off at the front (Split-rubber bushes)chassis mounts. The front bar mounts themselves might have two part nos, depending on the bar's diameter, if you're going to do those too. If you take the bottom ones off the wsihbones, then watch out, the bottom nut can break the thread if it has corroded againast the sleeves, also worth doing. Some part nos are in the Wiki..

I have a set of photos from when I replaced the bushes on a 2WD wishbone - found them last night.

I'll put them up tonight for your delectation.

Have removed the anti-roll bar tonight(no probs), then have tried to remove the upper arm on the offside. Can't get the ball joint to split but i have got a**holes for neighbours and play has to stop at 8 pm!!
Still very concerned about getting the camber set up after?
Thanks for all the advice anyway, by the way its a 2wd westy, i'll have a syncro one day!

I think you just note the position of the eccentric bolt head and esnure it goes back the same... then of course, can get it checked later if there's any doubt.
