Re: just had a weird\scary one
Had that happen with one rear tyre at Easter. No puncture but old alloys corroding a bit round the rim. Took it to my honest independent tyre dealer for resealing and had it fixed in 10 minutes for a fiver.
With old alloys I do check pressures pretty much every time before I go out. I keep thinking about tubing them like on my trials Beetle. If I used the Syncro more regularly it would probably be worth it. Also makes repairs easier if you carry a couple of spare tubes and a set of Tyre Pliers.

I am usually 42psi all round; which is about 2.9 bar Lloyd

Re: just had a weird\scary one
Thanks mark, wonder why VW show such low pressures for the 205/80? Mine are now a bar higher than they have been! Maybe squeeze a bit more mpg........

Luckily no punctures.... I did park on a local scrotebag estate the other day, maybe someone did something there?PetenAli wrote:Had that happen with one rear tyre at Easter. Could be worse...this T5 was in at work today for a few jobs...it's owned by a local agricultural machinery company and is their service van, always very loaded up..these are steel rims pushed past there limits!

Tyre still fully inflated and in use!
And..the other tyre..also inflated..

And yes the rear pads were metal to metal as well!

Re: just had a weird\scary one
That bit of rim that's missing just holds the tyre on...rather than the air in..the other tyre is ready for going pop!lloydy wrote:That's nasty! How the hell did they keep any air in!?

Re: just had a weird\scary one
I would be surprised if local Chavs would be bovvererd to let tyres down...maybe slash them...but to sit there with cold air blowing up there scrawny arms for 5 mins per tyre...nah...more likely..in fact im prepared to bet 50p on the fact your rim is corroded, flakey, and generally not a pretty sight.lloydy wrote:Luckily no punctures.... No offence...you need to whip off your rubbers and give it a good stiff wire brushing all round, then coat it with a tacky substance designed for the purpose.
With regard to tubes in your tyres...if you get a thorn stuck in you will get a fully deflated tyre...tubeless has many advantages over tubed.

Rims are good, seen them before the tyres went on. Now if you want the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth?

Gauge faulty on pump
one tyre was very flat, that caused the dodgy handling as i have very tall side walls.. so erm... no idea how flat as i've since found out about gauge fault... the other 3 tyres showed up flat, but most likely weren't (these were showing 0.75 bar, the flat one was under 0.5bar) i pumped them up to 1.8-2.1bar.
when i drove to the garage this evening to pump them up to 3 bar...guess what........ they were at 3 bar (double checked with another gauge) checked again with original gauge=1.8bar
I'll keep an eye on the one that was actually flat, but its held pressure for over 24 hours now. i shall now go and hide and think about the many boiler expansion vessels ive pumped up to 1 bar when in actual fact they will be over 2 bar........

Re: just had a weird\scary one
No chance... Blame culture is the modern way.. You need to invest in a calibrated tyre inflator but will be more than 50 p I'm afraid!
Re: just had a weird\scary one
i know you dont wanna spend spen sped lloyed but you could go for something like this and not worrie about having to hunt about the glove box for loose change to feed tescos or are you a waitrose man
