Got it all sorted, bought some replacements from Brickworks, super fast delivery.

An issue to be aware of though is that when fitting them they can upset the running of the engine. When i picked my van up from my local trusted mechanic (but he is not a VW man) the van was very noisy, rough and smoky  . He was embaressed and confused  . I thought the engine was completly knackered  , i spoke to Elite VW who advise that this is a common problem for people not familier with how carefull the rails need fitting. They advised that it would most likely clear itself, turns out it did, the very next day. They also gave me some good advice about my high oil use which should only need a quick fix :D
There are always other possibilities

Just back from my longest trip to date. 1500 miles round Scotland and back. The only problem I had was with the diesel injector pipes working loose twice. Without my torque wrench I had to use the spanner to tighten up and was careful not to overdo it- i guess this may have been why they came loose on the second occaision, but does anyone know what torque setting they need to be at the injector end ?
