Oil leak from top of dipstick

Post by barneyrubble »

Having now got my van running and taking it for a run, its now leaking all over the place, the most regular drip seems to be coming from the top of the dipstick, I've included a photo of it here to my (simple) mind it looks like there should be an o ring in that little groove, am I right? If so are they readily available or is it a pearly wot not job?

The dip stick tube does seem to slope a bit downwards at the end and I have felt the main oil feed pip there doesnt seem to crank case pressure from it or the dipstick so I hope this is the issue

Are you certain there is not more than 4.5 litres of oil in it.

Pretty certain, it's not normally parked on a very flat surface, but will park up on a mates drive today and double check, and will also try and tighten all the other little unions that are weeping.

I am still inclined to think there is a o ring missing from that top of the stick though, can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks

wasnt over filled - found an o ring in the pearly wot nots section, fitted perfectly and now my dipstick sits snugly, and doesnt leak!

(of course lots of other places do)
