According to my mileometer we have only done around 60 miles last year.... There seems to be a small brass bush missing from the end of the shaft holding the gogs alowing the shaft to fall out a little. I hve tried glueing a plate to hold it in position but that has not worked.
I don't know where I am, but I'm having a lovely time!

What about for insurance purposes? I'm insured for 3000 miles pa. I had to provide a mileage reading.
Cheers, Tim.

You're right there Steve, it seems they're going for around £60/£70 - I thought they'd be about a tenner!

You can indeed use a superglue but spend some money on a good brand rather than cheap stuff in £ shops or you'll be doing it again. You may even have better luck with an epoxy resin.

I reckon it's time for microsurgery on things like that - a flat ground on the shaft and corresponding flat in the cog and a small sliver of metal superglued and inserted. My feeling is that once it has slipped for a while the bore is opened out slightly so it is always going to be difficult to regain the original grip.

Many thanks for the advice - if I go down the repair route I'll take a few pics and post em up.

As said above, the superglue fix on it's own is usually a very temporary one. I have done a few by crimping the end of the shaft with a good squeeze of a pair of pliers (with the sharp teeth in line with the shaft, not across it), thereby slightly squashing the shaft out of round and cutting a coarse drive spline in the shaft. Then a tiny drop of glue and press the gear back on (it will now be a tight fit and will cut it's own matching spline in the gear). The gear will not slip round on the shaft any more.
Of the one's I've done, they are all still going strong AFAIK. :ok

Well I just did mine. I took the green cog off, cleaned all up, abraded the shaft with a tiny Dremel tool, glued it with a tiny drop of Loctite and re-assembled it.

I then decided to run the speedo with the Dremel motor to check it all worked. On running the motor the speedo fell out of my hand and the tiny watch spring that returns the needle is now a rats nest

HELP look in the "Wanted" section = I now urgently need a (late type) speedo

E D I T = Found one now, just 2 hours later it's in my van and working, phew (had important places to go the w/end.

I am so annoyed at myself because I had been so careful and it was 99% sure all would have been fine if I had just fitted it all back on the van !
