Help please - oil pressure light!
Just done an oil change inc new plug and filter, filling with 15w40 mineral oil. Just gone to drive off and the oil pressure light is flashing and the engine is bloody noisy.
Has the oil pump just given up or is it something less dramatic?

Sounds like it's airlocked ? Did you fill the filter itself ? Is it a Mann filter ?

Bright clattering? Probably the hyd. tappets have drained down (IIRC you've got a wbx) so it might take a while for it to disappear, sometimes one tappet will tick for 20 miles when all the others have filled and gone quiet.
PS I always prime the filter before spinning on and then crank it over with the plugs out and coil lead off. Pressure in no time.

Really stupid question...
You HAVE put the drain plug back in and refilled it, haven't you?
I speak from experience here.

Without oil pressure in the lifter gallery, the lifters will empty pretty quick.
Doing what Ian says help remove that issue

Thanks for your replies.
Yep, it's an Elite remanf DG.
Usually use a Mann filter but this new one is a Bosch (eurocarparts free filter offer) which I filled to the brim before screwing it in.
And the new sump plug was the first thing to go back in.
What exactly is airlocked and how to I rectify it? Will I need to drain down and start over?

James as the others have said sometimes it can help to remove the coil lead and turn it over a few times to help pump the oil round .... There wasn't anything stooooopid like a bung in the oil filter was there ?

Not that I could see. Think I'll drain it all off and double check everything.
Thanks for all you help. At work now, so will have to wait until tomorrow.

Re: Help please - oil pressure light!
Thanks again peeps.
After a night left with it's bum facing slightly downhill, the light went out, and after a run, so did the noise.
However, once it's had a run, if I switch the engine off, leave a minute or so, and switch on again, the light will flash until the throttle is blipped and then goes out again.

Re: Help please - oil pressure light!
Might just be a bit of clag under the pressure relief valve seating. I had BOD repeatedly going off after an oil change on an unknown engine, once it was warmed up. Engine was fine, not bad earths as everything else OK. After a couple of outings it shut up and has stayed silent. I can only think that it was the bypass valve sticking or hanging, always seemed to happen after a c.4000 rpm gearchange when accelerating.
