Anyone changed there water cooling from early type to late type ??
It looks like I may have to go this route whilst trying to remove the stuck thermostat on my early type setup, I sheared of the bolts holding the housing to the water pump .... this must have twisted the remaining stud so it was no longer straight because no matter how hard i pulled the housing would not separate from the pump, screwdriver, hammer then crow bar was required to finally get the bloody thing of.End result one F.U.B.A.R.'d housing and water pump .
The water pump is still available but after lots of searching it appears that the housing is obsolete and rarer then hens teeth.
As the engine is the same with both systems I.E the same amount of holes then it must be possible to interchange the two set ups ?? my question is has anyone had to do do it ? what parts are involved and what is the cost ??
From my brief investigations it looks like there is a metal pipe that is rare and damn expensive ! I am wondering if fitting a syncro metal type early housing and bunging up the extra holes may be an option ??

I have managed to source a metal housing and water pump... just need to find all the correct gaskets and a hose. Thanks for the advice

I too had this problem when Water Pump began to give up in Ireland.
As we where on a Campsite in middle of nowhere, I hacksawed Water Pump from Housing then filed surplus from face of Housing.
Glad you have now managed to source another, good luck. I've replaced all bolts with Stainless, the two holding pipe from Cylinder Head are a must, I had last two shear in the Head absolute b:::::d to remove!

Crickey , I wouldnt want to be in a field trying to sort this out ! well done for managing to do it.
I bought a second hand pump and housing of Ebay, someone who frequents this forum apparently . I didnt get their user name, wish I had because the water pump bearings are louder than the washing machine on full spin and their is a sheared of bolt in the housing . Pi%%ed of doesnt quite cover it !
