Mr Baxter took a look at the van and pressure tested the engine at only 1.5 bar! The oil light flickers when running hot on idle and a rev to just under 1000rpm sees it disappear however, after much research on different engine options, aaz increased power etc. I am on the look out for another JX block to drop straight in as a replacement with a view to then getting the original engine refurbished at some stage by a local place I have come across that seems excellent and is willing to let me get my hands dirty in the process, old fashioned small scale industry and skills are still alive in Sheffield :0)
Does this seem like a long term cost effective solution has anybody got an idea, within reason of the rough cost of a rebuild?

Re: JX
To be honest mm it was a while ago now and I have been using the van without too much trouble, I am of the school of thought to run it until something goes bang, most of the time! but I would like to be prepared when it does happen so I can simply pull one engine out and get another one in sharpish, then take a look at the original and rebuild if feasible, engineering and cost wise.
Seems sensible to me, if I can get a replacement at a reasonable cost and then use the van and take my time to get the engine rebuilt and end up with the original lump back in and fully refurbed, plus jobs like the tank straps need doing, I have basic spanner skills and a garage owning friend who lets me use a lift and other facilities so a straight swap seems like the best option and a visit to you will be in order at some stage as I would like to sort the bodywork too, but that's a whole other can of worms
