Is my engine knackered?

Post by ibsey »

Its a 1.6 TD (JX) in my camper. Engine makes a worrying mechanical sound under acceleration, blue smoke, black smoke, oil smuts up tailgate. Uses about 1 litre of oil every 100 miles. I am thinking its dying and am wondering about getting a reconditioned engine from Elite VW. I notice that people on here have had mixed experiences with Elite.

A litre per 100 miles - that's Donald Ducked that is.

Have you thought about going down the 2e/AGG/ADY route?

In other words, look in the 'alternative engine' section.

it could just be a knackered turbo - you need to get it checked over by a proper diesel specialist before condemning the whole thing as knackered
also knackered valve on the breather can allow excess engine oil into the intake and produce high oil consumption

Hi Aiden, I took it to Elite VW it was what they said so i have ordered a second hand one from Syncrospares. I hope to fit soon will let people know if it cures the oil problem.

The knockin was from having replacement diesel rails fitted apprently it can upset the engine and produce said noise. Elite said it normally clears itself, they were right it did.

The best bit was Elite said engine had lots of life in it yet. Wish I had been born a mechanic

I found Elite VW owner Mick very helpful and all for free.
