what size whell spacer do i need?

Post by benjigadou »

Hi,
I had a deal on 4 mercedes ml320 rims 16x8 ET62 for my 86 syncro. i have the information that i need spacer to fit on but I am wonderring what size to choose exactly.

i found that on samba about the mercedes ml320
8x16 ET62 (fits Syncro with spacers)
6.5x16 ET47 (fits Syncro w/o spacers and 2WD)

Does that meen that i need 15mm spacers? what about the size for studs?
Sorry guys i'm a newbie here and a recent owner of my first westy

Thank you very much for your help

ben

15 mm or 20 mm spacers and longer wheel studs. Studs are easy to fit on the rear but you will most likely have to sacrifice your front wheel bearings and seals when you go to fit the front ones. You will need a hydraulic press to remove and fit the front wheel bearings.

8x16 is wide and with so much offset your likely to have the inner edge of the tyre hit the suspension. How wide a tyre do you plan to use?

If someone has fitted these exact wheels before I'd be checking what they used.

22mm spacers on mine wit 47 ET ml rims.6.5"..works well...to close with no spacers, only 1 mm clearance!

Thanks for the informations
I was thinking to use 225/75r16 tires...according to some people, it would fit.

8" is too wide, if you must have ML wheels go for the 6.5" ones, I use 225/65R16's on those with no clearance issues.

But if your Westie has a stock engine then anything much bigger then the standard wheel will probably be a bit over-geared and you'll not enjoy the van as much..

I used this size for a while on a standard 14" van and they had about 5mm tread only...buzzed the wheel arches a bit but did just about fit...if the tyres had been a more knobbly style I suspect the bodywork would of suffered some damage...the gearing reduction was good for the motorways with an AAZ however...
